Group Overview
Air Mobility Group (AIRMOB) is responsible for developing and delivering Metrea’s aerial refueling (AAR) capabilities, ensuring the readiness and operational effectiveness of the tanker fleet. AIRMOB oversees fleet management, maintenance, and airworthiness, working to sustain and enhance refueling operations. It manages the integration of new processes and technologies, ensuring that tanker aircraft remain mission-ready through effective logistics, maintenance oversight, and regulatory compliance. By coordinating across various teams, AIRMOB ensures the fleet meets both current and future operational needs, supporting a range of specialized air mobility missions.
Position Summary
The Maintenance Control Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance control and planning operations for AIRMOB's KC-135 fleet. This role ensures efficient coordination of maintenance activities, supervises Maintenance Controllers, Maintenance Planners, and maintains effective communication between all functions of Maintenance, Operations, and Logistics Departments. The position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise in aviation maintenance, and the ability to ensure compliance with FAA regulations and company policies.
Role and Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Head of Maintenance, supervise maintenance controllers, conduct annual personnel evaluations, manage employee development programs, monitor mechanic duty schedules for compliance with duty time requirements, and ensure employees are provided with necessary training, tools, and equipment adhering to Occupational Safety and Health standards
- Ensure the maintenance control department operates efficiently and economically while maintaining the highest safety standards, and oversee Maintenance Control functions to ensure personnel perform duties effectively and provide real-time status of the fleet utilizing enterprise software
- Maintain effective communication between all functions of Maintenance, serve as liaison between Maintenance, Maintenance Control, and Operations to identify and resolve issues, and communicate effectively with maintenance personnel, company leadership, and Operations regarding aircraft status and estimated return to service
- Provide technical assistance to the Head of Maintenance in developing and approving AIRMOB Maintenance Department policies and procedures related to maintenance and support equipment for aircraft, engines, components, and accessories, and coordinate and plan maintenance activities providing technical support for efficient utilization of manpower, facilities, and resources
- Monitor all planned maintenance events, coordinate with responsible departments for resolution of AOG (Aircraft on Ground) or unplanned maintenance events, coordinate with managers and supervisors for scheduling maintenance inspections and non-routine maintenance, and support safe and on-time flight operations through effective maintenance planning and coordination
- Ensure all aircraft are operated and maintained according to the Minimum Equipment List (MEL) or other approved deferrals, develop plans for deferred maintenance items in accordance with the MEL including scheduling parts, personnel, and aircraft repairs, and review deferred maintenance items ensuring back orders have firm delivery dates if repairs cannot be made immediately
- Facilitate hazard identification and safety risk analysis within areas of responsibility, and monitor safety risk control effectiveness while promoting safety throughout the maintenance control area
- Maintain working relationships with maintenance and inspection agencies
- Review and transfer aircraft inspection and non-routine maintenance records to the inspection records department promptly
- Resolve complex maintenance issues through troubleshooting and manufacturer data analysis
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Experience
- Hold an appropriate airman certificate with current A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) ratings with minimum of 3 years of recent experience maintaining aircraft as a certificated mechanic, or experience in maintaining Same type or similar aircraft in a military environment or experience maintaining aircraft operated by AIRMOB. Previous Maintenance Control experience or significant line maintenance experience on large category transport aircraft preferred.
- Technical expertise in aviation maintenance operations with thorough knowledge of FAA regulations, specifically 14 CFR 43 and 14 CFR 91, extensive knowledge and experience with aircraft maintenance and logistics requirements, knowledge of aircraft maintenance procedures, MEL, and deferral processes, and understanding of safety management systems and commitment to OSHA compliance.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills with ability to manage and develop maintenance control personnel, excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination with maintenance teams, leadership, and external agencies, and ability to establish effective working relationships with all levels of management and technicians.
- Ability to read and interpret system wiring diagrams, structural repair manuals, and aircraft maintenance documentation, strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with ability to resolve complex maintenance issues, analytical skills to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and recommend corrective actions, and ability to review and interpret maintenance records and develop comprehensive maintenance plans.
- Proactive planning skills for project management and maintenance scheduling with excellent time management skills and forward-thinking perspective.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) and enterprise maintenance software systems.
- Valid Driver's License and ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances, if required. Must be a US citizen.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position with typical working hours Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. This role may require shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7 operations.
If located in the State of California, this role may require participation in an alternate work schedule to maintain continuous operations, which may include shift work, on-call duties, weekends, and holidays. Compensation for all hours worked will be provided in accordance with California state labor regulations and company policy.
Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Overtime may be required based on operational demands.
